learn about success from SRK.

Shah Rukh Khan or better known as SRK is arguably the greatest actor that Bollywood has produced in the 21st century. He was also awarded the Datukship title by the Yang Di Pertua Negri Melaka in 2008 as a means to promote the state of Malacca in his films! Non-stop hits and the persona by the “King of Bollywood” has allowed him to make his way into the hearts of millions of people around the world. However, he didn’t achieve this level of success overnight. Let us have a look at 10 lessons that we can learn about success from SRK.

1) Dream Big

SRK joined the industry by “accident” and didn’t intend to stay for a long time. However, after doing his first few films, he set his sights on one day, being the best that there is, and redefining the cinematic industry globally. As he rightly puts it, “The dreams I chased took me on a journey. A journey more rewarding than the goals.”

2) Poverty is Not an Obstacle

Having been brought up on the streets of New Delhi, and having lost both his parents at a young age, he could have used this as an excuse in achieving success in life. However, SRK used his sadness, frustrations, and injustice that happened to him as his fuel to achieve success. He signed films because of his fear of being poor and wanting to provide a comfortable life for his own family.

3) Charisma and Authenticity

Watch any of his interviews or movies, and you will realize one thing. He is a man of charisma and portrays authenticity in whatever he does. SRK is an actor who wears his heart on his sleeves and treats his fans, co-actors and his directors with dignity, respect, and honesty.

4) Failure is Never Final

You would think that after your first few films that received a lukewarm response at best, it would convince you to pack your bags and try out another career. But not SRK. Even with his first few films not being a success, he never viewed failure as final. He kept plugging away and after his first few hits in “Baazigar” and “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai” and more, his was on his way to stardom! Don’t let failure deter you!

5) Work Hard

SRK is known as one of Bollywood’s hardest working actors. Despite his phenomenal success and his age, he still works as if he is still proving himself in the industry. It is well known that he has insomnia problem and thus, prefers to work to fill in his time. This is the key to success; keep on working hard as if you are still proving yourself in the industry

6) Love What You Do

It is simple. If you don’t love what you do, your work will only be mediocre at best. SRK is a firm believer that you should love your job and devote your upmost energy to that job. Don’t cheat yourself from success by doing something that you don’t love. As he rightly puts it “If you don’t like something don’t do it, and if you’re doing something then you better like it. It is simple as that.”

7) Be a Giver

Once you have attained a certain level of success, don’t forget to give back to the community and people who helped you to achieve that success. SRK is known to give new actors a chance to star in films because he knows that not too long ago, he was a struggling actor whom someone took a chance on him. He also is actively involved in charities that champion social issues such as education and poverty.

8) Always Re-Invent Yourself

People tend to stick to their comfort zone. The fear of trying something new and not succeeding prevents us from exploring other areas. SRK is one who doesn’t believe in this. He started out his career in a villain role, and then, to a romantic role and recently, even a superhero role. We must always try out new roles in life!

9) Stay Humble

It’s easy to boast about your successes and forgetting your roots. However, in his interviews, SRK always gives thanks to God and his parents, whom he believe are watching him from heaven for his success. He leads a humble life and always refers back to his poverty days as a child and his struggles in making a name in Bollywood.

10) Make Time for Your Family

Many of us put a family in the backseat when we are trying to become successful. Once we are successful, we tend to chase even more success and never really make time for our family. SRK, even at his early days, tried to balance the demands of work and family. He doesn’t believe in mixing work and family, and instead, if he is working, he is fully devoted to his work. Similarly, when he is spending time with his family, he is fully devoted to his family.
